The United States Declaration of Independence was a statement that the Continental Congress adopted on July 4, 1776. The statement announced that the 13 American colonies at war with Great Britain till then were no longer a part of the British Empire. It is indeed the nation"s most celebrated symbol of liberty. And even in most recent of times we still see how important those words are today.
In the “I have a dream” speech, Dr. Martin Luther King stated that every man had the right to live in a just and free world, And he said himself” Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.”   But even as he spoke these words many were not wiling to listen to him.
In the book “A raisin in the sun”, the younger family, much like Dr. king, had dreams for the future that not many where willing to listen, or even care about.   The main conflict in the book would be that mama ran into some extra cash and every one believed that they should be able to spend the money like they wanted. A Raisin in the Sun was produced five years after Brown v. Board of Education.
In both pieces of literature you tend to see a lot of the same themes and plots going on. In both you can tell that racism is a major issue and that both have ways of facing it. Although the Youngers didn’t go out and inspire thousands with a powerful and motivational speech such as Dr. King, they did show that they were just as strong as Dr. King by refusing to give up when times were hard.
Another thing that stands out is the fact that both persevered when times were rough, and refused to give up when others expected them to. Also one should not forget that Dr. King had spurred thousands to get...
