Alice Rutkowski writes that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a new breed of power girl   Whereas, men have always been in that role.   Rutkowski also states that Buffy is liberating, powerful and sexual.   Rutkowski"s argument is a valid one, I would rather watch a television show where the female lead was the one who was doing the ass kicking than getting kicked in the ass.   Rutkowski claims that the success of Dark Angel and Charmed is owed to the power and influence of Buffy.   She also states that Buffy is a new breed because she was yet not a woman nor mother, whereas Sigourney Weaver in Aliens and Sarah Conner in Terminator 2, both who were motivated to heroic action by their maternal instincts.   Rutkowski states that the storyline is remarkable because, it takes the blond hair, blue eyed girl who always plays the victim and flips the roles and makes her the aggressor.   Rutkowski also says that Buffy the Vampire Slayer offers a rare combination but, was always snubbed by Emmys because, the show was a mix of comedy, drama, reality, and horror.
Rutkowski does have ethos throughout her argument.   She is a well know English Professor and also a published author.   Rutkowski also relies on information from other published authors such as, Mim Udovitch, Jules Zanger and, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Josh Whedon.     When reading Rutkowski"s essay you quickly see the
